The shadow is co-dependence — sacrificing your own needs completely to make yourself indispensable to others, or becoming overly needy and demanding that others fulfill you.

Neediness that creates unhealthy bonds. Emotional survival strategies perpetuate patterns of giving too much or demanding too much.

Heightened awareness of others' needs becomes a gift when grounded in self-sufficiency. Sensitivity without neediness is true compassion.

Not martyrdom but the joyful offering of the separate self. True sacrifice is the discovery that giving everything away leaves you with everything.
